<image:caption>The brief called for a new contemporary home to replace an existing two-bedroom fibro house that could accommodate a family of five. The design was driven by site context and passive solar design principles. The importance of utilizing materials, inside and out, which reduced the need for maintenance was a key requirement. Warm timber joinery throughout breaks up the light colour scheme. In-built joinery features throughout allowing for ample storage space in order to minimise clutter. Particular attention was paid to connecting the internal spaces with the external views and landscaping, whilst external metal venetian blinds which run the perimeter of the west, and northern glazed facades control sun and privacy. The house generates its own electricity which is fed back to the grid via solar panels on the roof. Photo by Andrew Krucko</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Client, a family with two young children were keen to increase the size and quality of space in their existing 1970’s home. The main entry was relocated to the north side to allow for a walk in robe next to the main bedroom at the front of the house. The main bedroom area therefore becomes the more private wing away from the main entry which leads to a new foyer, living and family areas. The existing bathroom becomes a new bathroom/laundry and a new car port has also been added to the front.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The proposal was for a new house to accommodate a family of five, with the ability to also accommodate their elderly parents at some stage in the future. A palette of hard wearing and maintenance free building materials and finishes was a requirement. A house that could be passively cooled and heated with plenty of natural light was important along with a strong connection to the garden areas and existing pool area. The concept plan seeks to address these issues, incorporating landscaped courtyard areas which allow plenty of natural light, views and privacy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The client, a rapidly growing ophthalmic practice, had outgrown their existing rooms and desperately needed more space. The brief called for a new fit-out, specialised rooms and spaces, to serve the needs of the practice within an existing high rise office building. With a limited floor area to work with, efficient planning was crucial to allow the specific functional requirements of the practice to be met. The focus was to minimise circulation space and maximise room space. Consult rooms occupy the glazed perimeter of the floor serviced by the main circulation spine which also serves to separate the public/ancilliary spaces from the clinical areas. The relationship between the spaces was important in ensuring their use was functional at the same time providing a light filled and pleasant workplace. Bockout blinds and venetians on the perimeter glazed walls control light in the rooms which require lower light levels at the same time allowing flexibility in their use.
